Garbage Disposal

Have you ever seen this before? This may be attached to the side of your disposal or some where in the kitchen cabinet. It's a service wrench for when the disposal gets jammed up. Owning this little tool can save you hundreds of dollars! Not owning it...well you get the picture!

If your disposal seises to operate and doesn't spin around like normal here's what to do:
  • Be sure the power switch if OFF!
  • Insert wrench into bottom of disposal, [see Garbage disposal bottom picture] and turn clock wise or until the obstruction is gone. If glass, metal or stone are in the disposal call a professional to remove it.

Your Toilet

Here's a great view of a toilet tank without actually getting into it!
Here's a few tips from a few of our plumbers.
  • Never use bleach based cleaning tab in the tank, it erodes the rubber flapper.
  • Only put the "three P's" into the toilet. Pee, paper and poop. Anything else and have a plunger on standby!
  • Never put dental floss or hair in the toilet. Refer to above 3P rule.
bio clean

Tips to keep your sink free and clear

Once a month fill the kitchen sink with cold water to the brim and let it drain. The cold water helps solidify any grease in the drain and wash it away. This also moves any food product down into the main drain and helps prevent a blockage.

When working at the sink such as peeling potatoes. When using the disposal always run the water about 30 seconds after you shut off the disposal. Here's the reason why. We need to move the potato peelings from the sink to the main pipe, then into the street connection. That takes a little while. That's why we let the water run to get the peelings into the main line.

Using an Enzyme

We advocate using an enzyme like Bio-clean as a preventative maintenance.

Using this product is pretty simple, take a scoop and add it to a quart of warm water and pour it down the drain before you go to bed. This allows maximum time for the bio-clean to eat and breakdown the grease and stuff in the drain, great product.
